Hi, I’m Sarah, and I help families feel rested and more relaxed about their child’s sleep. My mission is to help families develop realistic expectations and create a vision for responsive nighttime parenting during the early years. My specialties in infant sleep and health coaching are complimentary, as I help parents understand infant development from a biological and evolutionary perspective; this empowers parents to facilitate shifts in lifestyle to optimize rest and embrace nighttime parenting.
My postpartum period with my oldest was filled with considerable challenges as my husband’s parents were in a devastating car accident when our son was just three weeks old. The day before the accident, I was exhausted from cluster-feeds. A close friend told me about her love for Babywise and the ‘parent-directed feeding’ concept, so I looked into it and contemplated going with the eat-play-sleep schedule. What I read made me think I was doing it all wrong and that my child would never sleep unless I ‘taught’ him. But the accident was such a distraction to my research and overthinking that I entered survival mode; my instincts kicked in and I followed my intuition to do what I felt was best for our son – even if it didn’t match what the ‘sleep experts’ said.
In addition to the struggles of the early days, the time just before our son turned 2 was tough due to the continued frequent wakeups. Undoubtedly, there were moments of sleep deprivation and exhaustion that had me searching chatgroups, books, and websites to find a recipe for a quick fix. Not one of those sources understood my parenting philosophy or knew a thing about my child, but blanket statements and quick fixes were everywhere. Sleep training, schedules, and even a focus on healthy ‘sleep hygiene’ weren’t the solution to any of my challenges – finding support to build my confidence and process life’s difficulties were. To get through those times, I tapped into both my intuition and my resources. Our friends and extended family helped us immensely. I learned to accept the help. I sought professional guidance to tune into the present moment and trust what I felt. I learned to follow the lead of my child (a frequent night-waker and sensitive soul), who is the best teacher I’ve ever had. I learned that the books don’t have all the answers. And I learned to tune out advice that didn’t resonate. While many advice-givers have the best of intentions, their suggestions don’t always take into account your baby’s temperament, your parenting style, and your family’s situation.
So many lessons came from that scary time in our lives, and the story has a happy ending – my in-laws recovered fully, our son is thriving and sleeping well, and I feel well rested (even with a second baby in our family who wakes more than her brother did!). Adjusting my mindset and getting support that resonated were critical to finding peace and joy in all aspects of parenting. I now listen to my gut for mothering guidance and cherish the sweet moments at whatever time of day.

I transitioned my postpartum doula business to fill the void for responsive parenting sleep support. I couldn’t find a sleep consultant who matched our needs and philosophy, so I created this niche specialty to fill that gap. While the only expert on your baby is YOU – the parent – you need support to feel your best, as it’s hard to nurture when you are exhausted. My services are built on a foundation of emotional support, practical knowledge, developmental science, and attachment theory. I will be your family sleep doula to help you restore optimal health, find your parenting groove, and tune in to what you know is best for you, your baby, and your family. You have all the answers; I just help you uncover them.
